LAHAN: Intellectuals have expressed their complaint that the political parties, media and government bodies have not made any effort for the uplift of Tharu caste, however the country is striding towards change.
At a workshop organised here on Friday by Tharu NGO Federation on 'Rights of indigenous nationalities and inclusion', they voiced their concern that nobody has made any attempts to enhance the overall status of Tharu communities of Nepal.
Tharu intellectual Shambhu Lal Chaudhary demanded with the sides concerned to guarantee the rights of Tharu community, which has been lagging behind in Terai.
Lawmaker Laxman Mehata stressed the need to put focus on constitution drafting process in a serious manner.
Hari Narayan Chaudhary of the UCPN-Maoist said none's rights will be defended if the constitution is not promulgated on time.
Journalist Santos Subedi said the main mission of the journalism sector is to create pressure to bring the constitution-drafting and peace processes to logical end.
Chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), District Chapter Raudi Chaudhary presided over the programme.
