PM assures rights to indigenous community

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said the indigenous community should exert pressure on the concerned bodies to ensure its rights in the new statute.

Addressing the second general convention of the Indigenous Nationalities Youth Federation here Saturday, the Prime Minister said the rights, identity, employment and other issues of the indigenous community are being incorporated in the proposed new constitution. 


Prime Minister Nepal further said the rights guaranteed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) for the indigenous community can be included in the new constitution.

On the occasion, Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Chandra Nemwang said the youth should be aware and create pressure to ensure the rights of the indigenous community.

Speaking at the programme Chief of Young Communist League, lawmaker Pasang Sherpa, UML leader Karna Thapa and others from the indigenous community urged all to pile pressure for the PLA combatants´ integration and constitution drafting.

On the occasion, CA Chairman Nemwang and Chief of Army Staff Chhatraman Singh Gurung were feted. Likewise, Pradhumna Lal Pradhananga, Pasang Lhyamu Sherpa were honored with the posthumous awards.
